One of the groundhogs may have failed us, but at least we can count on this tiger cub and cub to warm our hearts.
The unlikely duo, Hunter the tiger and Chelsea the dog, are best friends at The Farm Inn Hotel and Wildlife Sanctuary in Pretoria, South Africa. In the video above from Baycroft TV, the two are seen playing wrestling in the grass and dirt, while other Facebook photos suggest the two love to hang out in all sorts of muddy places.
Anthea Michaletos of The Farm Inn says the three-month-old tiger was separated from his mother when she started acting aggressively towards him. When she let Hunter play with her pup Chelsea, they bonded almost immediately.
But all the “awws” and “awwwwwwws” aside, this cute friendship may have to end sooner than we expected. Watch the video above to find out why.

When officials at the Tianjhingu Zoo in Tongling diagnosed Tontong the tiger cub as “lonely,” they decided to find him a playmate. Huang Huang the cub entered, who was about the same age as the cub and was therefore thought to be the perfect companion for Tontong. Later, they introduced another tiger cub to the circle of friends, Huan Huan.
The NY Post quotes a spokesperson for the zoo: “When Tontong was born, his mother turned against him, so we had to separate them. But we realized he was lonely, so we decided to introduce him to Huang Huang, who has the same age. It’s unbelievable, but it’s been seven years and they’re all like brothers. They play, sleep and eat together.”
